Taalk — operated by Asynchronous Global AB

    Last updated: 13 May 2026

    1. About this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Asynchronous Global AB ("Taalk", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects personal data when you use the Taalk mobile application and our websites (including taalk.to and taalk.app) (together, the "Service"). If you do not agree with this Policy, please do not use the Service.

    2. Who we are and how to contact us

Asynchronous Global AB (Sweden, company registration number SE 5594035486) is the data controller for personal data processed in connection with the Service.

    Privacy contact: privacy@taalk.app

    3. Personal data we collect

We collect the following categories of personal data, depending on how you use the Service:

    3.1 Account and profile information

    • Name (or chosen display name).

    • Phone number and/or email address used to register or sign in.

    • Profile photo and any profile details you choose to add.

    • Your timezone.

    3.2 Contacts and connection tiers

Taalk lets you organise people into connection tiers (for example: Family, Friends, Work, Other) and set access rules.

If you enable contact access, Taalk uploads contact information from your device to our servers to identify which of your contacts are already registered Taalk users and to power features such as connection suggestions. The information uploaded may include: contact names, phone numbers, and email addresses you have saved for each contact.

We use uploaded contact information only to:

    • Match your contacts against registered Taalk users so you can connect with them on Taalk;

    • Suggest connections to you within the app;

    • Manage invitations you choose to send (including preventing duplicate invites and abuse).

We do not use uploaded contact data to send marketing communications to your contacts, do not sell it, and do not share it with third parties for their own purposes (other than service providers acting on our instructions, as described in section 6).

Retention. Contact records that match a registered Taalk user are retained for as long as you keep contact sync enabled and your account is active. Contact records that do not match a registered user are retained for up to 30 days to enable matching when new users register, after which they are deleted. You can disable contact sync at any time in your device settings or in the Taalk app, which will delete the contact data you uploaded from our servers within 30 days.

Security. Contact data is transmitted to our servers over encrypted connections (TLS).

Your authority to share contacts. By enabling contact sync or inviting someone, you confirm that you have the right under applicable law to share these contact details with us for the purposes described above.

Rights of people in your contacts. If you are not a Taalk user but your contact information has been uploaded to Taalk by someone who is, you can contact us at privacy@taalk.app to request deletion of your information from our systems. We may also use limited information to suppress further uploads of your details from other users' devices.

    3.3 Calendar and availability data

If you enable calendar access, we process calendar timing information to calculate your availability score and support scheduling. We process free/busy status and event time ranges. We do not read or store event titles, descriptions, attendee lists, or locations.

You can revoke calendar access at any time in your device settings; if you do, we will stop processing calendar data going forward.

3.4 Taalk requests, Waves, and interaction data

We collect information about how you use the Service, such as Taalk requests you send or receive, Wave activity, holds, and related timestamps. We may also derive interaction metrics (for example: response times and interaction frequency) to help power features like the availability score and to improve the Service.

We do not access your device call log. References to "call patterns" mean in-app interaction and scheduling signals within Taalk (for example, when a Taalk request was sent, accepted, or declined), not the contents of phone calls.

    3.5 Call transcription

Taalk offers an optional transcription feature for calls. Transcription is off by default and works as follows:

    • Transcription happens on your device. Your side of the call is converted to text locally using your device's speech recognition; we do not record or transmit your call audio for transcription purposes.

    • For each call, you choose whether to enable transcription. You can also turn on a setting that automatically accepts or requests transcription for your calls — this setting can be changed at any time.

    • If both you and the other participant enable transcription, each side's transcript is sent to our servers so the other participant's device can download it and reconstruct the full conversation transcript locally on their device.

    • Transcripts on our servers are deleted automatically within 24 hours of the call ending.

    • Once downloaded, transcripts are stored locally on your device within your Taalk call history. You can view and delete them at any time. Deleting a transcript on your device does not delete the copy stored on the other participant's device; each participant controls their own local copy.

    • We do not read, analyse, train models on, or otherwise process the content of transcripts beyond what is required to relay them between participants and to delete them on schedule.

Sensitive content. Calls may contain sensitive personal information about you or about the people you speak with. The per-call opt-in, on-device transcription, and short server-side retention are designed to give you control over whether and when this information is processed by Taalk.

Other participants. When you enable transcription, please be aware that your side of the conversation will be transcribed and made available to the other participant if they have also enabled transcription, and will remain on their device until they choose to delete it. You are responsible for complying with any local laws on call recording or transcription that apply to you, including any obligation to inform the other party.

3.6 Device, technical, and diagnostics data

    • Device type, operating system, app version, and language.

    • Unique device identifiers and push notification tokens.

    • IP address, time zone, and approximate location (city-level) inferred from IP.

    • Crash reports, performance data, and security logs.

    3.7 Public taalk.to/you page

If you enable your public taalk.to/you link, certain information (for example: your display name and availability status) will be visible to anyone who accesses that link. Anyone you share the link with can share it further. You can disable the public link at any time in your settings.

    3.8 Support and communications

If you contact us, we will process the information you provide (for example: your email address and the contents of your message) to respond and provide support.

3.9 Cookies and similar technologies (websites)

If you visit our websites, we may use cookies or similar technologies to operate the site, remember preferences, and understand usage. You can control cookies through your browser settings.

    4. How we use personal data

    We use personal data to:

    • Provide and operate the Service (including account creation, connection tiers, Taalk requests, and Wave notifications).

    • Match contacts you choose to upload against registered Taalk users to help you find and connect with people you know.

    • Relay optional call transcripts between participants who have both enabled transcription, and delete them from our servers within 24 hours.

    • Generate and update your availability score and related scheduling features.

    • Maintain the security of the Service and prevent fraud, abuse, and spam.

    • Improve and develop the Service, including analytics and troubleshooting.

    • Communicate with you about service-related matters (for example: support messages and important updates).

    • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use.

    5. Legal bases for processing (GDPR/EEA/UK)

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with similar legal requirements, we rely on the following legal bases (as applicable):

    • Contract: processing necessary to provide the Service you request.

    • Consent: for optional permissions such as contact access, calendar access, and call transcription. You can withdraw consent at any time in your device settings or in the Taalk app.

    • Legitimate interests: to secure, maintain, and improve the Service, and to prevent abuse, where those interests are not overridden by your rights. We also rely on legitimate interests for processing the personal data of people in your contacts who are not Taalk users, namely our interest (and yours) in helping you find people you know on the Service. We have considered the rights and interests of those individuals and limited our use of their data accordingly — for example, we do not contact them for marketing purposes, do not use their data outside the contact-matching context, and provide a route for deletion on request (see section 3.2).

    • Legal obligation: where we must comply with applicable laws.

    6. How we share personal data

We do not sell your personal data. We may share personal data as follows:

    • With other Taalk users when needed for the Service to function (for example: your display name and availability signals visible according to your settings and connection tiers, and call transcripts where both participants have enabled transcription as described in section 3.5). We do not share uploaded contact data with other Taalk users beyond what is needed to show you that a specific contact is registered on Taalk.

    • With service providers (processors) that help us run the Service (for example: cloud hosting, analytics, and customer support tooling). They may only process data on our instructions.

    • For legal and safety reasons, if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of Taalk, our users, or others.

    • In connection with a corporate transaction (for example: a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets), subject to appropriate safeguards.

    7. International transfers

Your data may be processed in countries other than where you live. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

    8. Data retention

We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes described in this Policy. Specific retention rules for contact data and call transcripts are set out in sections 3.2 and 3.5.

If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymise personal data within 90 days, unless we must keep certain information longer to comply with legal obligations or for security and fraud prevention.

    9. Your rights and choices

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal data; to object to or restrict certain processing; and to data portability. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time (for example: by turning off contact or calendar permissions in your device settings, or by disabling transcription in the Taalk app).

To exercise your rights, contact us at privacy@taalk.app. We aim to respond within 30 days.

If you are not a Taalk user but your contact information has been uploaded by someone who is, you can also contact privacy@taalk.app to request deletion or to ask us to suppress further uploads of your details.

If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

    10. Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal data against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

    11. Children's privacy

The Service is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, please contact us so we can take appropriate steps.

    12. Third-party services and links

The Service may link to or integrate with third-party services (for example: calendar providers). Your use of third-party services is subject to their terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for their practices.

    13. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the app or by other appropriate means. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Policy.
